PURE Globe

PURE is an international community of artists who bring positive change to the world through dance, music and theater. I co-founded the group with Darshan in 2004 and Sarah Locke helped us shape the vision until 2006, after which I became PURE's main facilitator.

Since PURE began in 2004 we've met weekly to develop choreographies, events, shows and ourselves. In 2013 we began expanding our curriculum around ideas and books that we find inspiring. Our gatherings have become something like an interactive book club. One hour every week of physical exercises, discussion and goal setting.

We're committed to creating events, conferences and workshops that facilitate open opens minds and critical thinking. We can't assume the world has our best interests in mind so what can we do, as individuals, to create the community that we need to feel supported, engaged and challenged.

What is PURE?

The name PURE acknowledges that we are “going back to the source” of our authentic selves. We pay homage to dance as the oldest form of communal ritual. The name also highlights our process of distilling the healing essence of many traditions into one PURE offering.

For the vast majority of human history everyone was a creator. It was part of everyday life. As we became more 'civilized' our roles became more rote and there grew a divide between artists and non-artists. We seek to reduce, or remove, that divide.

dedicated to Personal growth

Created and facilitated by Kaeshi, PURE’s mission is to share our love for creation with as many people as possible. We encourage personal growth in our members and our community. Only through self-awareness and exploration can we gain a closer understanding of who we are. And only when we know who we are can we best help others.

Look at your reflection in the mirror. Is she a friend or a foe? Take ownership of your self-esteem. Expand your concept of beauty beyond the narrow definitions created by the media by taking the Body Love workshop.

Community

Community doesn't just happen. It's the gradual result of people spending time together - growing, challenging and supporting one another. The ritual of meeting regularly and witnessing each other grow.

Like all communities we've seen people come and go. We realize that people are drawn magnetically to the message that they need, when they need it. We have members who have been part of PURE for both short and long hauls and we love them all.Our Focus

Public Urban Ritual Experiment

We engage in "guerrilla bellydance"-surprising the unsuspecting public with what seem like spontaneous performances. Dancing through the streets, we are seen by thousands of people from all walks of life, people who otherwise may never see this gorgeous, often misunderstood dance form. We also bring attention to different causes that benefit the public, by teaming up with charities and world peace organizations.

Our home, where we live in densely populated cities and small towns alike.

Ritual allows you to honor the passing seasons and acknowledge the important moments in one's life. Ritual creates community, drawing people together both emotionally and physically into a shared sense of the divine. As the community participates, no one is a stranger any longer.

We take chances. We try new things. Sometimes we fall on our faces, but we always let curiosity and the spirit of exploration guide us. We keep others guessing about what will come next! And we always prepare for the unexpected. PURE's dance and music are more than steps and notes. Together, they are a living, breathing art form, never stagnant, ever evolving.

Support

We believe in making art accessible to everyone and our regular classes are priced to cover room rental with very little or no margin for profit. All of our larger projects, shows and events are self-funded. Since 2006 PURE has been a labor of love and belief in the transformative power of awareness, creativity and sharing of idea exchange.

PURE (Public Urban Ritual Experiment) is a sponsored project at "The Field", a not-for-profit, tax exempt, 501(c)(3) organization. Gifts made through that organization are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Donations will go to the development of show, like PURE Reflections: Beauty Reimagined, and the development of new programs for universities and communities. These programs include performances, workshops and ultimately products that will extend our message into communities that can't afford to host a PURE event or chapter of their own.
