Belly dance CLASSES

I’ve been teaching dance since 2000. Through Bellyqueen, at it’s current location on Lafayette Street in NYC, I’ve been teaching since 2004. Classes are focused on personal expression, functional movement and maintaining your health, and having fun. Whether you want to learn traditional Raqs Sharqi, fusion, contemporary dance, I’d love to see you in class!

History

I've been teaching belly dance in New York City since 2000. My first classes were at “Interfaith Yoga” in the East Village, then “Bridge for Dance” on the Upper West Side. I promoted them with street flyers and tear off tabs! It was a humble beginning.

Eventually I moved my classes to 440 Studios aka Playwrights Rehearsal Studios Downtown, where I taught from 2004 until March 2020 when the pandemic caused all our classes to move online. The topics and number of offerings greatly expanded as other Bellyqueen members began teaching as well. Today the school offers ongoing classes in Oriental and fusion from absolute beginner to professional levels.

Specialty classes are also offered in topics such as dancing to live music, Turkish dance, using veil, balancing, finger cymbals, improvisation and more. Not sure you're ready for a class? You can book a private or semi-private lesson for you and your friends. Just between you and me, I LOVE teaching bachelorette parties.
